Review:

My journey in science communication is an amazing, significant, wonderful book. Once you start reading, you get so impressed by its natural, easily understandable way of writing that you keep on reading the book, till it finishes in one go. However, one of nice features of the book is, its simple language and not too lengthy chapters. Yes, each chapter is of the length that reader is involved with the writer and relishes reading it.

The book is about the remarkable voyage of Mr. Sachin Narwadiya ji, how he started, his graduation, jobs, post-graduation, his way of earning extra income, becoming science communicator and lot more. He hails the motto of “HOPE” 

“We have two ways always either face the situation or escape with an excuse. The facing the situation is my habit since I started my career. So I never give up whether it’s working or hope. In my view if a bullet fired on me then I will keep hope for life till bullet pierced me. I will keep hope till my last breath.” Sachin Narwadiya

When you start reading the book, it involves you in such a way that, you feel you are with him on his journey. With all the odds, he always look for the even side and focus on the positivity and emphasis on learning from Mother Nature.

“We all need to be more logical rather than blind eye believer. Always seek the answers from nature as we all are part of nature itself.” Sachin Narwadiya

The book begins with his finishing of graduation and dealing with the coming circumstances in life. His first encounter of a patient’s death and how he dealt with it. Then when he enrolls for post-graduation what he faces. The simple introduction of senior, junior in college and helping each other. Then starting his job career after completion of studies, instead of complaining of the working environment, he focused on the positive edge, helping the poor villagers and doing his part of duty honestly, infact going one step ahead. There is learnt much about tuberculosis and what is lacking for its treatment.

“The eradication of Tuberculosis will be possible only when we deliver our duties properly in healthcare; we need to strengthen our Public Health at grassroots levels. Technology needs to be more incorporated in health care.” Sachin Narwadiya

His encounter to female patients in RSSML, Rajasthan while doing ECG, is one part where he subtly tells about being professional in the duty with both the genders and his personality encouraged the female patients to ensure full faith in him. Here he discourages gender discrimination and put forward his professionalism. He speaks about his friend Dr.Kalyani, her undoubted support, her motivation which made him keep going in all the tough phases of life. How his journey at Vigyan Prasar began, how he managed to win hearts of interview panel, how finally got the opportunity to it and become a science communicator.

After joining there he attended many workshops and served too in many workshops in various states of India. Here he gives the details, which are extremely useful for students who are unaware of such programs conducted by government body of India to benefit and encourage young minds of India. 

Vigyan Prasar has established an EduSat two way Audio – Video interactive communication network in association with Development and Educational Communication Unit (DECU) of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) Ahmedabad. It is mainly proposed for science communication/ science popularization purpose and also for disaster management.” Sachin Narwadiya (approx. 20 states were covered in phase1)

Vidhyarthi Vigyan Manthan (VVM) is an online talent search app based program conducted by NCERT, vigyan prasar and vigyan bharti jointly. He even told that Vigyan Prasar was the first organization to conduct online classes and quiz from long time, telling about their futuristic approach. Here he shares all the details of this stunning, beneficial magnificent program and how they motivate students to take part in it. Again this is one of the useful chapters of the book which can surely help students as guide for the program.

His inclination towards science poetry in English and Hindi as well and how it helped him let his feelings combine with his love for science is described beautifully. He is man with a positive approach so he always look at the good part even in adverse situation, same he told about corona time and how the situation changed but one should not lose hope, kept him going. He even stressed about India’s oldest medicinal practice “Ayurveda”, he has dedicate one whole chapter over it and its benefits. Last but the least he has ended the book with his favorite area of interest i.e. microbiology and its intervention, he has tried to convey his knowledge in the simple language so that a non-science student can also understand.

Somewhere, he has made few grammar mistakes but, as said communication is medium which makes a bridge to let your feelings and emotions reach to the other side. Sachin Narwadiya ji, has done that in an ethereal manner. 

I would say, overall it’s an extremely effective, pragmatic, realistic approach based book which will be valuable for the future generations giving message that hard work, honesty, professionalism, positive approach leads you to achieve your goal.

I congratulate him, for penning down his experience for the next genre and wish him all the best for his future endeavors.
